    NiSi True Color VND

The Most Flexible Neutral Density Filter

The NiSi True Color Variable ND provides the convenience of a filter that can be used in multiple situations, an all-in-one filter.

Its primary purpose is to reduce the amount of light entering the camera. While a fixed ND reduces a fixed amount of light, this variable ND can reduce the light from 1 to 5 stops, making it the perfect ND for various shooting conditions and scenes.

Easily adjust the filter to control the amount of light entering the camera by rotating the filter's front ring without affecting the image's color or sharpness.

The True Color Variable ND is perfect for photographers shooting in situations where there is changing or shifting light, and control of the shutter speed for longer exposures or shallower depth of field is a priority. For video production, the frictionless rotating elements ensure that desired frame rates or depth of field can be easily and quickly adjusted without any vibration or shake being introduced into the videos.

    The Benefit of True Color

We designed the NiSi True Color VARIO-ND to produce true-to-life, accurate colors with no noticeable color shifting or color cast often seen with other Variable ND filters.

The need for post-processing time for color correction is reduced, with white balance and color temperature appearing truly neutral - ensuring the best possible image quality for both video and still photography!

    Design That Makes a Difference

The knurled edges of the lightweight, machined aluminum frame of the NiSi True Color VARIO-ND allow for improved gripping, ease of removal, and installation.

The True Color Variable ND features a removable stainless steel control handle that allows quick and smooth density adjustments during filming. In addition, the control handle ensures fingers don't accidentally end up in the shot as the density changes.

Markings on the outside of the thin aluminum frame accurately display density variations. When rotating the front element throughout its full density range, a tactile "hard" stop can be felt at 1 and 5 stops for feedback for exposure or aperture settings when shooting. The hard stops also prevent the front element from being rotated too far in either direction, providing more accurate control to minimize over or under-exposure of your imagery.

    NO Vignetting

Variable ND filters are technically two individual polarising filters, with the front element being able to be rotated independently of the back. The design of variable ND filters means that vignetting can often be seen as the two elements act as two stacked circular filters.

The NiSi True Color VARIO-ND filter has been designed with a larger front filter thread - and this combined with the thin aluminum frame ensures no vignetting can be seen on ultra-wide or longer telephoto lenses!

    Nano Coating

The glass elements of the NiSi True Color VARIO-ND are manufactured from the highest quality optical glass, offering incredible sharpness, clarity, resolution, and aberration-free imagery. The NiSi Nano Coating provides a waterproof, smudge-proof, anti-reflective layer and easy to clean. It helps to ensure optimal overall image quality, ease of cleaning and longevity of your filter investment.

What does a variable ND filter do?

A variable neutral density filter blocks the quantity of light coming through the camera. Since it is variable, you can quickly and easily rotate the front ring to dial in the right exposure from 1 to 5 stops. Variable ND filters are the perfect tool for photographers wanting to get more out of long exposures and for videographers wanting to control the light when shooting.

Why use a variable ND filter?

For photographers and videographers, an ND Vario filter lets you quickly adjust the exposure without switching filters since multiple stops are already built in. Using a variable ND filter, you’ll be better able to capture scenes where the light is shifting. A variable ND filter can also help you save money as you won’t need to buy separate filters with different strengths.

Which variable ND filter should I buy?

NiSi variable neutral density filters should be on your gear list. They're available in various sizes and compatible with a vast array of cameras and lenses, so there's sure to be one that's right for you. In addition, NiSi ND Vario filters have a mid-point price range, providing excellent value for money for such a high-quality product. Visit our shop to browse our variable ND filters.

Should I buy a fixed or variable ND filter?

If you’re a landscape photographer, you may prefer a fixed ND filter that is more suitable for shooting wide-angle images. If you’re a videographer, photojournalist or travel photographer, a variable neutral density filter may be more appealing because of its speed, flexibility and convenience. You’ll be able to achieve shots you wouldn’t normally be able to get. A variable ND filter gives you more bang for your buck as you can avoid buying multiple fixed ND filters at different strengths. If you're unsure which type of ND filter best suits your needs, contact NiSi for advice.

What is the NiSi Swift FS ND System and how does it work?

This kit includes three different Neutral Density (ND) filters: ND8 (3 Stop), ND64 (6 Stop), and ND1000 (10 Stop), offering unparalleled control over exposure and depth of field. Perfect for capturing silky water, cloud movement, and reducing glare in bright conditions. It's a circular filter kit that mounts fast with a press on design.

How does the friction mount of the NiSi Swift System differ from magnets typically used in filter mounting systems?

The friction mount of the NiSi Swift System is different from magnets used in filter mounting systems as it ensures that the filter is always connected and ready for anything. Magnets can easily become dislodged, especially when working in fast-paced or challenging environments. Using a friction mount, the NiSi Swift System avoids this potential pitfall, providing photographers with the confidence that their filters will stay securely in place no matter what.

In which situations is the NiSi Swift System particularly valuable for photographers?

The NiSi Swift System is particularly valuable for photographers and cinematographers who shoot in situations where time is of the essence or where they need to move quickly and efficiently from shot to shot.

What is the benefit of the NiSi FS ND filters?

Full spectrum filters, like the NiSi FS ND, offer a significant advantage as they maintain color fidelity across the entire visible spectrum, ensuring that your images are not only accurately exposed but also exhibit true-to-life colors without any color cast, making them superior for high-quality photography.

The NiSi FS ND filters, featuring Full Spectrum Neutral Density technology with True Color Transmittance and precise stops, are enhanced by a NEW Multi-Ti Coating and Nano coating, making them not only waterproof but also anti-reflective, ensuring superior optical clarity.

What types of photography can benefit from using the NiSi Swift System and how can it improve the creative process?

The NiSi Swift FS ND System can profoundly benefit various types of photography, enhancing the creative process in several ways:

Long Exposure Photography: By significantly reducing the amount of light entering the lens, these ND filters allow photographers to use longer shutter speeds without overexposure. This capability is perfect for capturing smooth water movements in seascapes or cloud motion in landscapes, adding an ethereal quality to the images.

Landscape Photography: The precise stops and true color transmittance of these filters ensure that landscapes are captured with natural colors and balanced exposures. This is especially beneficial for sunrise or sunset shots, where light conditions can be challenging.

Cityscape and Architectural Photography: In busy urban settings, using the NiSi Swift FS ND filters can help blur moving elements like cars and people, creating a sense of tranquility and focus on static architectural features.

Motion Blur Effects: For creative photography, these filters allow the blurring of movement, such as flowing water or swaying trees, adding a dynamic element to the compositions.

Time-lapse Photography: Consistent exposure control is crucial in time-lapse photography. The NiSi filters provide consistent density and color accuracy across shots, making them ideal for creating smooth, high-quality time-lapse sequences.

By enhancing control over light and color, the NiSi Swift FS ND System not only expands the range of possible shooting conditions but also empowers photographers to explore creative effects that would otherwise be difficult to achieve.
