Before you choose

Find your size

Eleven threads, one filter.

Pick the size that matches your lens filter thread. Every size is the same glass, the same coating and the same 1 to 5 stop range.

In the box

  • True Color VND/PL filter
  • Machined metal lens cap
  • Plastic storage case
  • Soft storage pouch

Your thread size is printed on the front of the lens or inside the lens cap, next to the diameter symbol.

If your lenses take different threads, buy the filter for your largest lens and fit it to the rest with step-up rings. The slim frame stays clear even on a 15mm full-frame lens, so there is no vignetting to work around.

Every size is SWIFT compatible, so it also works as the base of the NiSi SWIFT system: mist, diffusion and other SWIFT filters push onto the front.

Why VND/PL

Two filters that stop fighting.

A variable ND and a polariser stacked the usual way means two frames of glass, two threads and one adjustment that ruins the other. This is a single filter where each is driven by its own control.

01 / 09

Independent VND and PL control

Density and polarisation are adjusted independently, so rotating the polariser does not shift the ND stop you have already set. Dial in the exposure, then work the reflections, and neither undoes the other.

VND and PL, 2-in-1

Two essential filters in one: light reduction and glare control from water, glass and foliage, without stacking a second frame in front of the lens. Less gear in the bag, faster on the front of the lens, and one less surface to flare.

True Color technology

Engineered for neutral colour across the whole adjustment range. Where many polarisers leave a magenta tint or a warm cast, this one holds tone consistently whether you are shooting RAW stills or LOG video, so the grade starts where you left it.

A wide range of light control

1 to 5 stops of reduction, hard stopped at both ends, with no X pattern from cross-polarisation anywhere in between. Open up or close down as the light changes without swapping filters, and hold a slower shutter for motion blur or long exposure.

An ultra-slim metal frame

Aluminium alloy with a corrosion-resistant finish, machined slim enough to stay out of the frame on a 15mm full-frame lens. Two filters in the depth most single filters take, so the widest lens in the bag is still usable.

06 / 09

4-side nano coating

Multi-layer nano coating deposited on every surface, cutting reflections and repelling water and oil. Rain beads off, fingerprints wipe away, and the filter stays clean enough to leave on the lens all day.

Markings that glow

The markings glow in low light, so you can find the stop you want without a headlamp or a phone screen in your face. Useful the moment the sun goes, which is exactly when a VND is doing the most work.

A metal lens cap in the box

A machined aluminium cap is in the box, not a plastic pinch cap. It seats on the front of the filter and takes the scratches, dust and knocks of transport, and the silver finish matches the frame.

SWIFT system compatible

Pairs with the SWIFT system, so you can add mist, diffusion or a second effect on top without worrying about fit or performance. The VND/PL becomes the base of a stack rather than a filter you have to take off first.

Filter on and off

Same scene, filter on and off.

Each pair is the same scene on the same camera, once through the True Color VND/PL. The first three are the polariser at work; the last is the variable ND.

Through a windscreen

Sky reflected on the glass washes the driver out. Turn the polariser and the reflection goes, and you see straight through.

Portrait against the sky

The sky behind the subject deepens to blue, while the white jacket and skin tones stay true.

Lake and granite dome

The clouds gain definition and the sky deepens, with the ND stop left exactly where it was set.

Bright scene, 5 stops of ND

The other half of the filter. Without ND the bright sky blows out to white; at 5 stops it keeps its cloud and colour.

Questions

Before you buy.

What does "independent control" actually mean?

The variable ND and the polariser are driven by separate controls on the same frame. Rotating the polariser to kill a reflection does not change the ND stop, and changing the ND stop does not rotate the polariser, so you set your exposure once and then work the glare without going back and forth.

Which size do I need?

Match the front filter thread of your lens, which is the number after the diameter symbol on the front ring or inside the cap. Eleven sizes cover 49mm to 95mm, all listed under Find your size. If your lenses differ, buy for the largest and use step-up rings on the rest.

Will it leave a colour cast?

No. This is a True Color design, engineered for neutral colour across the whole 1 to 5 stop range. Many polarisers add a magenta tint or a warm cast that you then have to grade out; this one holds tone consistently on RAW stills and LOG video alike.

Does it show the X pattern that variable NDs are known for?

Not within its range. Cross-polarisation is what produces that dark X on a wide lens, and the 1 to 5 stop range is hard stopped short of where it appears, so the whole range is usable rather than just the middle of it.

Will it vignette on a wide lens?

The frame is machined ultra-slim specifically to avoid it, and holds clear on full-frame lenses as wide as 15mm. That is unusual for a filter carrying both a variable ND and a polariser.

Can I stack other filters on it?

Yes. It is SWIFT system compatible, so mist, diffusion and other SWIFT filters go on in front of it without a fit or performance problem. It is designed to be the base of a stack rather than something you take off first.

What comes in the box?

The filter, a machined metal lens cap with a silver finish that matches the frame, a plastic storage case and a soft storage pouch. The cap seats on the front of the filter, so the filter can stay on the lens in the bag.
